Research group at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology

Our research group is pushing the boundaries of atmospheric plasma technology. We are developing unique, environmentally friendly plasma sources optimized for materials processing across many sectors - from industry to advanced research. We develop and apply plasma sources that allow working with temperature-sensitive materials and offer advantages over commercially available solutions.

With patented technologies and the ability to efficiently treat large areas, we are expanding the possibilities of where and how plasma can be used. We work with industrial partners and international scientific institutions because we believe plasma is the key to a new generation of functional surfaces.

Research activities:

Surface treatments - cleaning, activation, functionalization, decontamination
Bioapplications - plasma treatment for biocompatibility and sterilization
Functional layers - ultra-thin composite coatings, flexible electronics
Special applications - treatment of hollow objects, graphene oxide reduction
Roll-to-roll processes - fast, low-cost plasma treatments
Basic research - atmospherics discharges, plasma chemical processes

Environmental and biomedical applications of plasma

Our colleague, Dr. Oleksandr Galmiz, currently works in the Department of Environmental Physics at the Department of Astronomy, Physics of the Earth, and Meteorology at FMFI of Comenius University in Bratislava. As part of his postdoctoral fellowship, he is testing the use of plasma in biomedical applications, primarily for cleaning and sterilization.

Anastasia Moskvina is new Brno Ph.D. Talent

From physics at Masaryk University, Anastasia Moskvina was successful in Plasma Physics. Areej works under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Homola at the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications research group. In her project, she will focus on developing MXene-loaded PCL/HA scaffolds modified using cold argon and ammonia plasma. These plasma-induced surface modifications aim to enhance hydrophilicity, protein adsorption, and cell adhesion.

Bilateral research project PlasmaMix-BioMat is moving forward

The recent visit of Dr. Jakub Kelar and Dr. Michal Pazderka to the University of Ljubljana as part of the bilateral PlasmMix-BioMac project once again highlights the value of long‑term partnerships. This collaboration strengthened partnership with the team of Dr. Sebastian Dahle in the field of plasma technologies, materials research, and bio‑applications.

Lenka Vítková Joins our Research Group

The Plasma Nanotechnology and Bioapplications Research Group at DPPT and CEPLANT welcomes its new colleague, Ing. Lenka Vítková, Ph.D. She will join the team in composite materials research and also bring her expertise in the field of natural polymers.
